Our Critical Infrastructure team are experts in mission critical infrastructure assets that are essential for the operability of business and society. We specialise in the upgrade, de-carbonisation, expansion and modernisation of mission critical engineering led infrastructure across the data centre, media, life sciences, commercial, manufacturing and other high-tech sectors. To minimise the impact of embedded carbon in existing facilities, we look to re-use, re-purpose or refurbish wherever possible.

How we helped the leading critical infrastructure provider

BCS were required to manage and co-ordinate a programme of work taking place at sites across Europe such that our client could understand the overall picture at programme and project level. All projects were undertaken in live environments where uptime was sacrosanct.

The Challenge

A six-year, Europe-wide, rolling capital programme to replace life expired equipment and remove single point of failure risk from existing data centre electrical and mechanical engineering infrastructure. The programme was to address critical risk to service provision, enhancing resilience and aligned assets to global design standards. The site by site programme of work was matched to a risk assessed schedule of issues developed through survey and operational events.

The Opportunity

To provide comprehensive programme and project level controls to facilitate a consistent delivery platform and governance generating live data. The data from this platform was to be used to prioritise and deliver the workstreams across eleven countries. We were able to leverage our experience of Europe-wide project delivery to overcome challenges of culturally diverse working practices and business environments ensuring that the consistency in the roll-out of the programme could be maintained.

The Solution

We were able to leverage our experience to ensure that the common delivery platform that we put in place was implemented successfully. Our reporting processes were agile and clear, allowing quick decision-making with short lines of communication across the large stakeholder community. Our appreciation of the dynamics of operational facilities ensured that emerging priorities were considered in a structured way and introduced into the programme where appropriate.
